HOW TO CLEAN HARDWOOD FLOORS
(BE CAREFUL AND RESEARCH WHAT CAN BE USED ON YOUR TYPE OF FLOORS)
1. First, gather your materials
I use the O-Cedar mop. The world has been talking about this mop so many times, but for good reason. I have used Swiffers and other floor mops. There is nothing like this spin mop! It really is an essential tool to learn how to clean hardwood floors.
You can also use other spin mops or other mops in general.
Mop water mixes: HOT water + Powdered Tide + A splash of bleach (magic potion for cleaning anything)
&
Fabulouso + Hot Water
&
Vinegar + Hot Water
2. Vacuum and/or broom first
So, I have a Dyson and I use it almost every day. I also think that sweeping is an old-fashioned way that probably works the best way possible! So do what you need to do, to really get rid of hair, dust, and dirt.
Grab your hot water and other mixing potions for the rest of the mop water.
3. Start from the end
This is something a lot of people do not realize! I really think starting from the end of your house to the beginning of where you are at is going to be beneficial. You want to start from where ever you will end on walking wise.
4. HOW TO CLEAN HARDWOOD FLOORS (TWICE, THAT IS HOW)
I have seen so many cleaning bloggers who rave about to make sure the right way to how to clean hardwood floors is to do it twice. So did not think of anything about this, but because I literally have to dump water and refill with hot water. I just did not want to do it, to be honest!
Now, it is worth it. I will say that. Your first swipe will just clean the surface dirt and dust. Your second swipe is going go make sure there is a deeper clean and that it was cleaned properly!
5. LESS IS MORE – CLEAN HARDWOOD FLOORS
Do not, do not use a lot of cleaning product. No matter what you are using as your mopping solution. You do not want to use more cleaning solution than the hot water ratio. It will make your floors sticky.
Therefore, if you are using tide detergent powder in order to learn how to clean hardwood floors, you should not use a lot or they will not dissolve in the water properly.
6. Lastly, STEAM MOPS VERSUS SPIN MICROFIBER MOPS – how to clean hardwood floors
Now, microfiber mops such as the O-Cedar will be efficient enough with just hot water. Which is awesome. Now, there are steam mops (which cannot be used on all floors) but they are also used with hot water that is warmed on its own.
Here is my personal comparison:
So, steam mops has to use distilled water only in order for the mop to continue to work well.
Steam mops will disinfect your floors with the heat and spin mops will focus more on picking up dirt.
Steam mops do not require any cleaning solutions.
Then, spin microfiber mops are a lot more durable than regular mops.
Microfiber mops pick up dog hair and dust.
Finally, you can wash microfiber mops and steam mop heads easily.
