Have you ever wondered why so many people swear by time-blocking? How are they able to get so much done in a day with just one method? It kind of sounds too good to be true and kind of way too complicated. I am here to tell you that it really is not! It is super easy to time block as a college student, post-grad student, and/or grad student!
Time Block Your Day as a Post-Grad Student
This post is all about how to time block your day as a post-grad student!
1.Write out a to-do list
I used to never understand the hype behind a to-do list, but I most definitely do now. Write down the top 3, 5, or 7 things that need to get done that day. Do not over-book yourself. These are the top things that do need to get done this day.
2. Start from easiest to hardest to easiest
By this I mean, make your bed, tackle a paper, and then put away dishes. This way, you are prioritizing smaller things that still need to be done, but are able to be done in minutes.
3. Use Google Calendar, notebook, daily check-in pads, etc…
Use something that works for you! Since writing this, I have switched to my paper daily pads from Target. I will link them below. SO cute, useful, and big for me! I love using them. I like looking at the time block portion and then my to do list portion. It helps me cross out multiple things at once.
4. Overestimate time, never underestimate time block
Give yourself plenty of time to complete the tasks on your list. If it usually takes 3 minutes to make your bed, schedule in 10 minutes. You may be tired, your dog may distract you, you may end up on your phone longer, you want to make sure you really tackle everything on your list! This is so crucial to making sure that things are getting done on time and at the right time.
5. Do not overbook
You know you will not be able to get all 15 things done in a day when you really need to do three a day. There should be no multi-tasking when you use time block scheduling. You need to be in your schedule realistically. There should be time to relax, eat, work out. I mean you should be planning everything from the time you wake up to the time you are in bed.
