13 Simple Bathroom Cleaning Hacks
- Gather your Bathroom Cleaning Supplies! To be honest, this may be the hardest part for many people. Finding the right cleaning supplies for your bathroom. Here are my recommendations:
- Get a Foaming Bathroom Cleaner for your counters and toilet! I like the Clorox one!
- Get a Shower Bathroom Cleaner. I love the Scrubbing Bubbles one!
- Toilet Bowl Cleaner – Again, I LOVE the Scrubbing Bubbles one!!!
- Microfiber Towels – Available at Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, etc…
- Paper Towels
- Dish Sponges!
- Small Toothbrush or larger brushes
- Wipe down surfaces weekly with microfiber cloths instead of paper towels
- EMPTY out EVERYTHING from your bathroom counters and shower. This is KEY to making sure you can start on that bathroom cleaning checklist right! You want a clean surface or else things will just continue to be in your way.
- Use baking soda to remove soap scum from fixtures and faucets
- Start spraying your cleaner on your counters, toilet, and then your shower!
- This is where you let your bathroom products “marinate” for about 10 minutes.
- Wipe down everything and/or use a toothbrush for corners to really get in there!
- Wipe down your toilet and make sure you clean the bottom part. Some toilet seats are also removable if you want to really get in there! You do NOT want to miss the top part, the toilet handle, and really anywhere!
- After wiping down, you are ready to get your toilet brush and start cleaning the inside of your toilet. Also, I would recommend using gloves for this part especially!
- After your counters and your toilet are clean, you want to move to your shower. Now I usually will get cheap dish sponges and clean with them. Then I can just toss the sponge right after! I also like to scrub the shower when I shower after cleaning the entire bathroom. This step is totally up to you!
- After your surfaces are clean, I would start to vacuum or sweep up the bathroom floor. I LOVE my Dyson V9 for this because I do not have to sweep and it picks up my hair!
- Right after sweeping/vacuuming the bathroom, I like to mop with the O-Cedar MicroFiber Mop. You probably have seen everyone use this. However, I like to do HOT water and some Fabuloso in there. This is totally up to your preference though! I also like to mop the rest of my house and then mop the bathroom floor. Just because I do not want to cross-contaminate!
- Last step, make sure you put your bathroom rugs AFTER your floors have dried or your bathroom will smell like a wet dog, literally!
I know all these steps may seem pretty easy or straight forward. However, when I first moved to my first home, I was searching up bathroom cleaning hacks and tricks to help me start. It was so hard to find any information. There were a lot of hacks of baking soda and vinegar, but I was so desperate to figure out how to clean my bathroom effectively!
Basically, make sure you use the right bathroom cleaning supplies, bathroom cleaning tools, and have the right bathroom cleaning checklist!
For bathroom cleaning wipes, I use paper towels. For the kitchen and around the house, I am an avid user of microfiber towels. However, it grosses me out to think about reusing bathroom towels. So this is just a suggestion.
The importance of finding the right bathroom cleaning supplies is vital to making sure you have a smooth bathroom process. I STRONGLY believe every cleaning supply is not a one size fit all. We all have different materials we are working with. Therefore, it is SO important to just try your own products out! Usually bathroom products are not too expensive and I have found Walmart to be the cheapest!
BLEACH cleaning products! Okay, so I do not know what the right place for bleach is. But I have learned it is not for ALL toilets. It literally stained my toilet! I am not saying do not use bleach products, but I would just be EXTRA careful when you are using them. Just make sure to do your research before hand!
Some other Bathroom Cleaning Hacks and Tricks:
- Use cheap sponges! Get them from the dollar store so you can just toss them right out.
- Get your gloves at the dollar store!
- Clean your bathroom floors AFTER you clean the rest of the house’s floors.
- Dust beforehand!
- Clean your baseboards AT LEAST every 6 months! I use a microfiber towel with some soap and water. Simple and so EFFECTIVE!
- Put unused candles in your bathroom towel cabinet. This will ensure your towels smell SO good when you take them out!
- Use the trial and error method!
- Make sure you have proper ventilation when using chemical cleaners
Baking Soda Cleaning Tip:
Use baking soda to remove soap scum from fixtures and faucets – Fortunately, baking soda is an effective and simple way to remove soap scum from these surfaces. Simply make a paste of baking soda with water and apply it directly to the surface with a sponge or cloth. Let the paste sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. You may need to use a scrub brush if there are tough stains that won’t come off easily. The abrasive quality of baking soda also helps to remove lime deposits from hard water in pipes without damaging the surface or corroding pipes as some chemical cleaners can. Additionally, its natural deodorizing properties make it ideal for removing bad odors that may linger in drains or around the bathroom sink.
So I could keep on going, but I think I will stop here for now. Just be patient and take your time the first few times! Make sure you figure out the right bathroom cleaning supplies for you and your house. And after a few times, you will definitely be a bathroom cleaning pro 😉
